DIGITAL VS. FILM?

These days I prefer to shoot digital, though on request I am happy to use medium format film as well. My digital equipment is two 12 MP Canon EOS 5D, and an 8 MP Canon EOS 20D with the best Canon lenses, and for film I use a Contax 645 with Zeiss lenses.

Which is better? In my opinion, digital SLR now exceeds the quality of 35mm film, and is comparable with medium format. It can be enlarged to poster size without a problem. There is a difference in the way they look: film has something of a softer look, and the colors are a bit different. I am happy to show you examples of each when we meet.

The main advantage of shooting digital, to me, is the instant feedback. Being able to see I’ve gotten the perfect shot and perfect lighting allows me to move on to the next moment.

Digital is also more environmentally friendly, as it requires no chemicals to process, no animal products (film is made of gelatin), and reduces paper usage if you choose digital proofs rather than paper.

In addition to or instead of prints, you can choose to have CDs containing all your digital pictures, which you are free to print as you wish.

The pictures below, like many in the other galleries, were all shot digitally.
